Circle Oil spuds exploration well offshore Tunisia

Circle Oil has started drilling the EMD-1 well, on the offshore Mahdia Permit, using the drillship PetroSaudi Discoverer.

The well is located within the vicinity of many producing fields, including the Tazerka, Birsa, Oudna, and Halk El Menzel oil fields, and the Maamoura gas field. The well is planned to test the play potential of the El Mediouni prospect, including the primary Birsa Sands target and the secondary fractured carbonates of the Ketatna Formation.

The Birsa Sands alone have a management pre-drill P50 estimate of 185 MMbo STOOIP. The primary target, the Birsa Sands, is expected at 1,260 m MD with the Ketatna Carbonates at 1,460 m MD. The management view on the recoverable prospective resources estimate for the El Medouini prospect is 46 MMbo for the Birsa Sands objective alone. This is substantially larger than the recoverable commercial threshold for the area which stands at approximately 10 MMbo.

Depending on progress rates the well is expected to take approximately 5-7 weeks to drill.

India increasingly dependent on imported fossil fuels as demand rises, says EIA

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- India' s dependence on imported fossil fuels rose to 38% in 2012, despite the country having significant domestic fossil fuel resources. India ranked as the fourth-largest energy consumer in the world in 2011, following China, the U.S. and Russia. The country' s energy demand continues to climb as a result of its dynamic economic growth and modernization. India is the third-largest economy on a purchasing power parity basis, and has the world' s second-largest population, according to World Bank data.

Libya’s biggest oil port may open in August, rebels say

Libya’s largest oil-export terminal, the port of Es Sider, may re-open in August after the North African nation’s new parliament takes office, said a spokesman of the rebel group that shut the facility almost a year ago.

“It’s possible to solve all issues and get to an agreement to re-open Es Sider and Ras Lanuf when the new parliament starts working, God willing, after Ramadan,” Ali Al-Hassy, a spokesman of the Executive Office for Barqa, said by phone from eastern Libya.

Ras Lanuf is the second of two ports still under control of the Barqa rebels. The Muslim fasting month of Ramadan started today, June 29, in Libya and will finish with the Eid El Fitr holiday at the end of July.

The rebels’ Executive Office for Barqa seeks self-rule for the region known also as Cyrenaica. It occupied oil ports in eastern Libya at the end of last July, demanding an oil-revenue sharing agreement to make up for the neglect the area experienced under Muammar Qaddafi’s 42-year rule.

Libya, with Africa’s largest oil reserves, is now producing about 300,000 bpd, or a fifth of its output before Qaddafi was overthrown in 2011. The loss of the country’s oil production has boosted the price of Brent, a benchmark for half the world’s traded crude.

Deal

Under an agreement reached on April 6, the Barqa federalists handed over control of Zueitina and Hariga, two of the four oil ports they seized a year ago. In return, they received an amnesty and the payment of salaries for defectors from Libya’s Petroleum Facilities Guard who joined the rebels.

The accord calls for a second round of talks aiming at a comprehensive deal that would allow the re-opening of the two remaining ports, Es Sider and Ras Lanuf.

The Barqa federalists last month threatened to cancel the April agreement in protest over the appointment as prime minister of Ahmed Maiteg, whom they see as allied with the nation’s Islamists. His appointment was later withdrawn, and elections were held last week for a new parliament.

Danske Bank on June 19 raised its third-quarter forecast for Brent crude to $107 a barrel, from $104, on the turmoil in Iraq and the protests at oil sites in Libya. “We expect the oil price to stay in the $108-114 a barrel range over coming months, as it will take some definitive progress in Iran and Libya for the oil price to break below this range,” it said.

Circle Oil starts drilling SAH-W1 well in Sebou permit, Morocco

Circle Oil, reported the preliminary results of drilling of the well SAH-W1 in the Sebou Permit, onshore Morocco.

The well is located within the western central area of the Sebou Permit, about 3.2 km to the south west of the main gas gathering station. The well was spud on 19 May and drilled to a TD of 1,263 m MD. Gas shows were encountered at three levels within the target Guebbas sands, but seven inch casing had to be installed (due to mechanical problems) before drilling a six inch hole through the main target interval. The wireline logging confirmed the presence of three gas-bearing zones, and subsequent pressure testing in the six inch hole confirmed permeable high pressure reservoirs.

The rig has been released from this site before running the 4.5 inch liner as this is a non-standard size for drilling these wells and this is being sourced to test and complete the well for production in the future. The net pay from wireline log analysis is 6 m in the Top Guebbas, 6 m in the main target Intra Guebbas and 3 m in the lower part of the Intra Guebbas. The plan is to produce the three zones sequentially from the bottom up, where the highest pressure is present.

Putin praises alliance with Exxon as Arctic drilling starts

SOCHI, Russia (Bloomberg) -- President Vladimir Putin lauded Russia’s “old and reliable partner” Exxon Mobil Corp. as he gave the command for the U.S. energy company and ally OAO Rosneft to begin drilling a $700 million Arctic Ocean oil well. Putin, Rosneft Chief Executive officer Igor Sechin and Exxon’s Russia head Glenn Waller, undeterred by the crisis in U.S.-Russian relations, together welcomed the start of the country’s northernmost well. It’s the first step in a quest for new energy resources to help maintain oil production near a post-Soviet high of more than 10 MMbpd.

Unique Hydra unveils the HYDRACraft series

Unique Hydra has received its second order this year for the company' s diving daughtercraft system, the HYDRACraft. Unique Hydra has spent the past twelve months engaging with clients to understand their diving daughtercraft operational and equipment requirements and developing a purpose built vessel which includes a fully integrated dive system.

Diving Daughtercraft systems are used in diving operations where the conventional diving DSV is not able to position itself close enough to an FPSO or offshore platform. The daughtercraft is fitted with surface supplied diving systems capable of supporting Nitrox and/or air diving operations and is assisted by an additional “support craft” that transfers personnel and supplies during the diving operations.

The mother vessel, barge or platform is outfitted with davits for the daughtercraft and support craft as well as support equipment, including the decompression chamber, gas storage and compressors.

Currently, two designs of the purpose designed diving daughtercraft are available, the HYDRACraft 1400 14m 8 man, and the HYDRACraft 1500 15m 10 man. The HYDRACraft design considers features and attributes required for safe and effective diving operations.
